+ How is camp impacted by COVID-19?

We continue to monitor and will adhere to guidance from health authorities as we move forward. Protocols may change depending on the level of community spread.

All of our staff are fully vaccinated and we highly encourage campers who are eligible to be vaccinated to do so before the start of camp. Since campers will be interacting indoors, all campers will be asked to provide negative COVID-19 test results taken 48 hours prior to their start date. At home rapid antigen tests or PCR tests accepted. Campers will be asked to take a rapid test at camp if they exhibit any symptoms.

Mask protocols will depend on mandates from local health authorities.

We will implement additional preventive measures to mitigate the risks of transmission.
  • Take non-contact temperature readings of campers during check-in
  • Sanitation wipe down of activity areas after each use
  • Additional sanitation supplies such as hand sanitizers and/or wipes will be available throughout the camp day before/after all activities
  • Strict adherence to our extensive health and safety protocols

If we are unable to host camp or need to cancel registrations to limit camp size (first come first served basis) due to changing health authority orders, affected families will receive 100% refund.

+ What is the age requirement?

Our camp is for kids who will be entering grades 2nd - 12th in the fall. For our 2nd - 8th graders, campers participate in our classic camp program, and our 9th - 12th graders are eligible to be Leaders-in-Training. Our Single Sessions are available to all ages while Double Sessions are available to 6th grade and up. Learn more about our different session offerings.

+ Why are some sessions limited to some ages?

We want all campers to be successful during their time at camp. For different campers this means different things. Multiple options for a range of ages allows campers to "try-out" camp for a length of time that works for them and their families. As campers grow older, choosing appropriately longer sessions adds to their successful camp experiences. Our Single Sessions are available to all ages. Double Sessions are available to 6th grade and up. Learn more about our different session offerings. Please contact us with any questions about session dates and lengths that don't work for your family. We are happy to discuss the options available that still ensure a top-quality camp experience.

+ What's the difference between the Single Session and the Double Session, besides the length of time? Do they do different things the second week?

The Double Session includes 10 days and 9 nights of fun, friends, outdoor adventures, and more. The second week will include new activities to keep the camp experience just as fun! New evening programs, an overnight under the stars, and a top-secret Adventure Challenge await our Double Session campers!

+ What is the staff to camper ratio?

Our average ratio is 1:8. On top of this, there are usually an additional 12 - 14 naturalists, lifeguards, chefs, grounds-keepers, managers, EMTs, etc. on site at any given time.

+ Where do the kids sleep? What are the cabins like?

Our campers live in clean, comfortable fully enclosed dormitory-style cabins that typically sleep 8 - 14. Our cabins are fully equipped with electricity, heating, carpet and complete bathroom and shower facilities. Our campers sleep on sturdy wooden bunk-beds with foam mattresses. All they need is their own sleeping bag and pillow! Typically, at least two counselors live in each cabin.

+ Where is Marin Ranch Camp?

Marin Ranch Camp is located in beautiful West Marin at the Walker Creek Ranch Outdoor Education Center. You can find locations & directions here. Please do not "drop in". If you need to reach the camp or would like to arrange a pre-camp visit, please contact us.

+ How do we get to camp?

Please make arrangements for transporting your camper to and from camp on the drop-off/pick-up days. No transportation is provided by the camp.

+ How do you assign campers to cabins?

In general, campers are in a cabin with other kids their own age and gender. We do accept grouping requests, but please limit the groups to no more than 3 friends. While sharing experiences with old friends is a valuable experience, we highly encourage sharing experiences with new friends. Grouping requests are not guaranteed if the campers are different grades or genders. All families will have the opportunity to provide grouping requests and other special notes or requests during registration.

+ Can I send my child mail while they're at camp?

Yes! We recommend the most reliable option: give the camp staff letters or care packages for your child at check-in! Instead of a stamp, put the days of the week you'd like them delivered and our counselors will hand them out during mail call. USPS takes about 3-days to deliver a letter mailed from the San Francisco Bay Area to WCR, and therefore mailed letters and packages are likely to be missed by your camper. We encourage you to give your camper a means to write back, like sending them with pre-addressed, stamped envelopes and paper.

+ Who are the camp counselors?

We hire the very best in camp staff, and give them several days of training to prepare for your child. Our team members are usually college students interested in impacting the lives of children in our community, with experience baby sitting or working at other summer camps (including our sister program, Camp Doodles day camp). All of our staff, and every staff member of our host site Walker Creek Ranch, has been interviewed, fingerprinted, FBI/DOJ background checked and trained/supervised to maintain our high standards.

+Tell me more about swimming and boating. Are there lifeguards?

As you may already know, safety is the most important of our core values. The lake we use is fenced, always supervised by certified lifeguards and our team members are always with the campers anytime they are at the lake. Life jackets provided by Walker Creek Ranch are always required for all younger campers or campers who are not quite as strong at swimming. On the first day of camp, all campers take a swim test that determines which swimming areas they may use.

+ Can I visit my child during the week?

One week is such a short time for campers to adjust and settle into camp, and parents visiting in the middle of this session would disrupt the important transition process that is so crucial for the success of all campers’ experience. Please do not "drop in" to camp. Please contact us with any questions or concerns, but rest assured that if your camper is truly having a hard time, we are already on top of it!

+ When might the camp may contact me?

We seek to ensure a safe and healthy stay at camp, but in the case of an unexpected accident or illness our team will contact you. Marin Ranch Camp will call to inform you of any significant medical situations that have occurred at camp. Some examples of this include a Doctor prescribing oral antibiotics or other medications, any situation requiring a visit to the hospital or dentist, an unusually long illness, or continuing homesickness. For minor medical issues we do not contact the camper’s family. These matters may include: the dispensing of some oral medications such as antihistamines, topical creams or lotions; minor cuts and scrapes; homesickness that lasts for short periods of time; minor colds or short term illnesses that do not require medication. Should we need to contact you, we will make several attempts to reach you directly and will leave a detailed message on voice mail if necessary. Please make sure to provide the camp with your most up to date contact information.

+ Do you have EMT's on site?

Several full-time employees of Walker Creek Ranch are trained EMT's. Additionally, all of our camp counselors hold First Aid and CPR certifications. Additional emergency medical services (including a helicopter) are just a phone call away.

+ What should we pack?

+ My child takes medications or has special needs

During registration, there is a section on health information and medications where you will let us know about your camper's medical needs. All medications are collected at check-in, and detailed records are kept when dispensed to your camper. If your child has a special need that you think we should know about prior to registration, please contact us so we can discuss if this is the right camp for your child and how we can support them to be as successful as possible.

+ How do campers choose their activities?

We offer a mix of pre-planned, quality camp programs (swimming, archery, camp fires) plus individual choice time, and free play. Campers therefore receive a balance of structure and flexibility during each day.

+ How often do campers participate in the activities you list?

Since there is so much to do at Marin Ranch Camp, some activities will only be available once during any given session of camp. During the afternoons, we often have elective time where campers can choose to repeat favorite activities or try new ones!

+ Do boys and girls get to interact?

Yes! The interactions between boys and girls of this age are an important part of their regular development. During choice time, all-camp activities like camp fires, swimming, and the Boogie Barn Bash, groups are co-ed. Of course, girls and boys have their own gender-specific cabins, showers, bathrooms, etc.

+ What's the weather like?

Temperatures range from 50 - 90 degrees, so layers are the key to keeping comfortable. The mornings are often chilly (and sometimes foggy) and the afternoons are usually hot.

+ Do you offer financial assistance?

We believe in the power of summer camp for every child. We are able to offer a limited number of scholarships to families in need for up to 50% of the regular registration rates, depending on income and household size. To apply, please complete the financial assistance application (one application per child) within the following timeline: All applications are due by June 1. Recipients will be notified by June 30 (if not before then). Please note that we receive hundreds of applications every year but unfortunately, we cannot accommodate everyone.
